S8x09: "Quo Vadis"by Trinity

Original Air Date: November 22, 2001

As a kid with his foot stuck in "a personal sanitation device" is being wheeled in on a gurney, Kerry looks over and realizes that the firefighter following is none other than the gorgeous woman who was controlling the scene of the ambulance wreck in the rainstorm the week before! Kerry rushes around the counter to catch up with the group. As Sandy is saying to Abby, "the dad wouldn't let us break the thing!" and Abby asks "the toilet?” Kerry finally reaches Sandy's side.

Sandy turns, sees her and exclaims "Hey, Dr. Weaver, right?" Kerry nods, and Sandy says, "Sandy Lopez". Kerry, in her best Weaver-all-business manner, answers, "Right". Then Sandy says, "Good job last week; I hear the lady and the baby are doin' Okay." At this point Kerry turns to Abby, takes the boy's chart from her, "Hey Abby, I got this."

Later Kerry and Sandy are walking down the corridor side by side…Kerry says, "You know I never got a chance to thank you for the…" Sandy reaches out, touches Kerry's back, and interrupts with, "saving your life?" with a big grin on her face, then laughs. Kerry laughs too and says, "yeah well..." Serious again, Sandy says, "no sweat, it was a crazy night". They stop by a supply cart and Kerry begins taking things off it. She says, "Pretty crazy job; haven't met too many female firefighters". Sandy proudly replies, "only one in company B". Kerry goes on…"must be pretty challenging", and Sandy responds, "nah, not really; I'm just one of the guys." At this, Kerry does a little double take, and Sandy turns to walk away, "Anyway, I'll see ya around." Knowing the moment is about to end, and hoping to prolong contact, Kerry calls after her, "Did you get a wound check?" Sandy turns back and says, "Huh?" Kerry says softly, "your hand". Sandy replies, "Oh," (looking down at her hand) "Uh", looks back up at Kerry with a teasing smile and says, "I Don't like doctors" and starts to turn away again. Kerry says hopefully "You should let me take a look at it before you go". Sandy replies, "maybe some other time" and puts a hand up in small wave as she turns and walks away. Kerry continues to watch as Sandy leaves and the look on Kerry's face is highly speculative.

Later, accompanying a patient being taken out on a gurney, Kerry is telling the paramedic about her meds and care. As they get outside in the ambulance bay, she sees Sandy shutting the door of a fire dept rescue truck. Kerry hurries toward her and greets her with "Sandy!” The look on Sandy's face is delicious - sort of shy, probing, as she says "Hey, still got time for a wound check?" Kerry responds "Uh, I thought you had to leave AMA (Against Medical Advice); Sandy replies, "Mmm, it wasn't bothering me ‘til I jammed it pulling some hose". When Kerry asks, "Is it bleeding?" Sandy says, "I don't think so". Kerry starts walking and says "Come on, let's take a look."

Inside Kerry and Sandy are sitting on either side of a small examination table, facing each other while Kerry is working on Sandy's left hand; Kerry is wearing gloves, holding Sandy's hand palm up. A strong lamp lights the work field reflecting in their faces.

Kerry says, "You're supposed to be on light duty", looking up at Sandy briefly. Sounding a little guilty, Sandy replies, "I was moving some gear", and Kerry responds with a sigh and…"Yeah, you went on a run". Laughing, Sandy replies, "I get a little stir-crazy" as Kerry glances up again. Looking back at Sandy's hand Kerry says, "OK", as she presses around the palm, "looks pretty good, no sign of infection." Sounding disappointed, Sandy says, "That's it?" Kerry replies softly, "No, you need a new bandage."

The sexual tension between the two escalates palpably here. When Kerry looks up they gaze at each other for a long moment. Breaking the eye contact, Kerry looks down again and searching for something, anything, to say…"So, is, uh, Capt. Devlin still at the 75?" With a half smile, Sandy says, "I know the name". Again they look into each others' eyes with tentative smiles; then Kerry looks back at Sandy's hand and says, "Those guys used to hang out at a place called the, uh, Moose and Squirrel". Sandy’s eyes are still on Kerry's face as she laughs and says, "Yeah, every Friday night!" Her eyes continue to probe and caress Kerry's face as Kerry says, "That was a fun place." and after a small pause, "Uh, you should have someone remove the stitches in 4 days". When she looks up Sandy is smiling and says, suggestively, "I know where to find you."

Kerry returns Sandy's gaze with a long look, then screwing up her courage as she looks down again, "Listen, Sandy..." Sandy winces and sucks in her breath as something Kerry does hurts her hand, breaking the moment. Kerry apologizes, "Oh Gosh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I bunched it up" as she straightens out the bandage. Sandy, obviously hoping to rescue a moment in danger of dying, jumps in with…"It's alright. What were you saying?" Kerry glances up at Sandy for a moment, decides to go for it, and as she looks back down, she asks, "Do you want to do something?" As she looks up again Sandy is tilting her head and has a quizzical look on her face. She says "scuse me?” Getting flustered now, Kerry says, "uh, sometime, you know, something".

Sandy's expression becomes a teasing little smile, as she responds to Kerry’s ambiguous invitation, "Something?" Kerry, getting more flustered by the moment, gives a little embarrassed laugh, closes her eyes, squirms a bit and finally manages…"You know, lunch or a movie, (pause and rolling eyes) or ice fishing…" and, relieved at finally getting it out, laughs nervously.

Then, eyes locking on Kerry's, Sandy chuckles, smiles big, and says provocatively, "Like go out?" (Editorial comment - oh, what a feeling!!!!!) Becoming serious after a shy smile Kerry says softly, "Yeah, I mean, unless I'm totally, uh, off base here." Sandy smiles speculatively and says slowly, "No, You're on base". Kerry's face lights up and a tiny self-satisfied smile appears as her tongue peeks out between her lips. She did it! She really did it!
