Who'd
a thunk that a mere 10 months after falling down the rabbit hole and
landing here in Maddog's fabulous domain I would be writing
fanfic and now a column for the Sandynista page on Weavered.com?
Certainly not me. Yet, here I am...
Let
me start by explaining who we are... Sometime around the middle of last
season, a small group of us started to come together because we were
seduced by the dark charms of Dr. Weaver’s new love interest -- Lt.
Sandy Lopez, played by Lisa Vidal of “The Division”. Needless to
say, we nearly caused a riot every time one of us posted our praises of
the firefighter...so we rallied around our standard bearer, the lovely
and incomparable Erised, and the Sandynista forum was born.
In
the months since the airing of "Lockdown".... we’ve been
busy dreaming, writing, discussing, and speculating about our favorite
ER doc and her Intimate Firefighter Friend (IFF) and what TPTB might
have in store for them (and us) in the upcoming season. Which brings me
to the point of this new feature for the Sandynista page at Weavered.com
-- to share with you some of our ideas and comments on Dr. Weaver and
Lt. Sandy Lopez.
I
would like to start with this well thought out and articulate post by Thessaly,
which I think all of the Sandynistas agree with... I sure couldn't have
said it any better.

The Beautification of Kerry Weaver - by Thessaly
Some people
question Sandy’s public outing of Kerry’s Lesbianism, saying that it
was a spiteful thing to do, that she did it to be hurtful, etc. I
disagree, because at that point in the relationship Sandy was very
far-gone on Kerry and just as vulnerable to the kind of hurt Kerry
unleashed by denying her, and later blowing up at her. Sandy is a woman
who knows herself, her heart and her mind together; she was already sure
she was in love.
Kerry,
as we all know, has been sublimating most of her emotional side for a
long time. She hadn’t learned to trust her own feelings and everything
she felt for Sandy was overshadowed by the fear of discovery, the fear
of being “outed”.
That
fear was destructive, painful, a demon unto itself. Kerry’s anguish
was dangerous. It was hurting her and would have continued to do so.
By
outing her, however impulsively, Sandy slayed that demon for Kerry. And
she knew, she knew, that it might put Kerry out of her reach, at least
for a while, but possibly forever. So the consequences of that action
were a lot more severe for Sandy. She loved Kerry enough to let her go
until Kerry was able to understand that one can pay a serious price for
repressing emotion and denying identity. Repressed passion kills.
Figuratively, or literally.
Understanding
Sandy's motivation and sacrifice, Kerry is now able to trust her where
she wasn't able to trust Kim. She's free as a bird to explore and
develop her feelings for Sandy. (Remember all the bird and butterfly
imagery via Stan the Can in "Bygones"? It wasn't just filler,
people!)
That’s
part of what I believe TBTB were trying to say with the “Bygones”
college stabbings subplot, or those “ham fisted Lesbian anvils of
death”. That could have been handled with loads more subtlety, but
whatever.
So, do Kerry and Sandy have chemistry? Yup. Sure do. I think that’s part of the explanation behind what I like to call the Kerry Weaver Beautification Project. She’s going through such a major transformation, in demeanor as well as appearance, and she owes most of it to the loving, stable relationship she’s working on with that sweet, sexy firefighter. Either that, or Sandy’s doing Kerry’s hair every morning. We’ll just have to wait and see!
